How to Best Sell Your Home to MillennialsMillennials, anyone born between the years 1980 and 2000, can be a tough group to sell a home to. They are known for living in the city, where they can rent a loft and bike to work. This, however, is not the case for all Millennials. Some are searching the market for the perfect home to become their first home. According to the California Association of Realtors, the average age of a California homebuyer is 38. The time for Millennials to buy a home is coming soon as they reach the average age of homebuyers across the state. What can you do to reach this population?

  1. The Millennial’s wish list.

    The Baby Boomers, the Millennial’s parents, wanted homes with large areas for storage, a big kitchen, and a two-car garage to be able to hold the husband and wife’s cars. In the same way, the Millennials have specific commodities they are looking for in their homes. This includes, but is not limited to: a single-story home, a room for media, floors of hardwood or tile, and floor plans that are open and split. Adjusting your home to meet these desires will potentially draw in more Millennials.

  2. The neighborhood.

    Millennials want their home to meet a need. Some Millennials are looking for community, others are looking for proximity. As a generation bound by time and efficiency, selling the home’s proximity to the highway, grocery stores, shopping malls, and the hospital is important. They want to be able to reach their destination sooner rather than later.

  3. Environmentally friendly attributes.

    Millennials are known for their commitment to the environment. If your home is new, it is more likely to have eco-friendly features. One of the simplest ways to create a more environmentally friendly home is through changing the windows to double-pane windows. This helps with insulating the house.

  4. Advertise online.

    Connected to the internet at all times, Millennials are much more likely to browse the internet for a home then search through the newspaper. Using resources such as Facebook are a great method to reach this generation.
